Obituary for Edward McCarthy

Edward C. McCarthy, 83, of Sylvan Beach, NY died unexpectedly in his sleep on Sunday February 27, 2022, at his home. Edward, the son of Edward Clarence and Norma Ethel Parks McCarthy was born December 31. 1938. He was a lifelong resident of the area, graduated from Oneida High School and received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Utica College.     On October 27, 1956, Ed married his High School Sweetheart Carolyn Theresa Heintz who passed away September 27, 2020, just one month shy of their 64th anniversary. Ed was employed as a registered nurse with NYS Developmental Centers in Marcy, Rome and Syracuse. Ed retired after a long and successful career as a nurse and administrator. A longtime member of St. Mary’s of the Lake / St John’s North Bay Parish, Ed actively assisted wherever he could. Most notably he successfully spearheaded numerous fundraising events over the years. Through all of this, Ed and his family developed a strong friendship with Fr Leo Wimett, Pastor of St. Mary’s. Ed was a founding member of the Village Board of Trustees and served two terms as Mayor of Sylvan Beach. He is currently an Honorary member of the Sylvan Beach Volunteer Fire Department in recognition of his many years of service.     Surviving are six children, Kathy (Jim) Pineau, of Celebration, FL; David (Darlene) McCarthy, of Soda Springs, ID; Richard McCarthy, of Cleveland, TN; Robin McCarthy, of Zephyrhills, FL; Ed McCarthy, of North Bay NY; and Kevin (Kerry) McCarthy, of Saranac Lake NY; sixteen grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, his sister Patricia Merrill and a grandson Matthew Pineau.     A Memorial Mass will be held 10:30am Tuesday June 28, 2022 at St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, Route 13, Verona Beach, NY. Interment St. John’s Cemetery, North Bay, NY. Calling hours will be held Monday June 27th at the church from 5 – 7:00pm. Memorial Contributions may be made to either the Sylvan Beach Fire Department, P.O. Box 503 Sylvan Beach, NY 13157 or St. Mary’s of the Lake Church, 121 St. Joseph’s Place Oneida, NY 13421. Arrangements have been entrusted to the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc. 109 Main Street Camden, NY 13316.
