Obituary for Lester "Jim" Liddy
Lester J. ‘Jim’ Liddy, Jr., 87, of Camden, NY passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2022 at the Abraham House, Rome, NY. He was born Nov. 14, 1934 in Rome, NY, a son of Lester & Minnie Kirby Liddy. Jim was a lifelong resident of Camden with the exception of his service to the U.S. Marine Corp from 1953- 1956. He married the former Doreen E. Keil on September 13, 1958 in Camden, NY. Together, they raised three children; Dawn & Kevin Kelly, Portland, CT, Darlene & David O’Hara, Camden, NY, and Donald Liddy, Las Vegas, NV. The family grew to five grandchildren, Ryan & Melissa O’Hara, Kristina Kelly & Rob Eason, Joshua & Ashley Kelly, Kailee & Brandon Petrie, and Tara Kelly and three great grandchildren, Isla, Rayla and Miles. Lester is survived by two brothers, Harold & Jeanne Liddy, Utica, NY, Larry Liddy, Camden, NY, and several nieces & nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Richard Liddy, a sister -in- law, Joanne Liddy, two brothers in law, Keith & Karl Keil and a niece, Michelle Liddy.
Lester worked at Laribee Wire Company for 35 years as a Maintenance supervisor, then Maintenance Engineer. He worked a lot of hours but loved his job. Together, he and Doreen built their home by cutting the logs on his father’s farm and sawing them at Doreen’s father's sawmill. Here they lived happily for 63 years. Jim enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting firewood, camping, cooking chicken in the backyard, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family. In 1956, he joined the International Order of Oddfellows Camden #718, Oneida District and had served as past president and District Deputy Master. He also served as President of the Hillside Cemetery (Hillsboro) for over 40 years. Lester loved to travel and visited almost all 50 states with Doreen at his side.
Graveside services will be held 11:00am Saturday, July 30, 2022 at Hillside Cemetery, Steam Mill Rd, Camden, NY, under the direction of LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., Camden, NY. Memorial contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hillside Cemetery Association, 9421 Babcock Rd, Camden, NY 13316.
